All You Need to Know About Interviewing as a Unit Secretary

Are you interested in becoming a unit secretary? As an integral part of the medical team, you’ll manage communication within the hospital or healthcare facility. This includes taking phone calls, relaying messages, scheduling appointments, and filing patient charts. You'll need to ace your interview to land a job as a unit secretary. Research the Company Beforehand

Doing your research ahead of time is key when it comes to interviews. Before your interview, you should have at least some general knowledge of the company’s mission statement and goals. Doing research also gives you an advantage when it comes time to answer questions—you can refer back to what you learned while researching and clarify that this job interests you. Plus, if something specific about the company resonates with you, mentioning it during the interview will show how much effort you put into preparing for it.


Be Prepared for Questions Related to Your Experience

Interviewers want to know why they should hire you instead of someone with similar qualifications or experience. It's important that during the interview process, you highlight any relevant skills or experiences that could give you an advantage over other candidates. Be sure to focus on any successful projects or tasks you completed in past positions; doing so will demonstrate your ability to get things done efficiently and with great results. Additionally, be prepared to answer questions related directly to the position, such as “What do you know about electronic medical records (EMR)?” or “What do you know about HIPAA regulations?”




Communication Skills Matter

As a unit secretary, part of your job involves interacting with people from different backgrounds and levels of experience—from physicians and nurses all the way down to patients and their families. It's important that during your interview process, you demonstrate excellent communication skills by speaking clearly and confidently throughout the entire session. This means explaining yourself concisely but effectively so that everyone involved knows exactly what points are being made—and why they're important. Being able to articulate yourself is essential for any job, especially where communication is integral to day-to-day operations.

 

Interviewing as a unit secretary can be intimidating—but if done correctly, it can help secure a dream job! Make sure that before going into an interview for this type of position, take some time beforehand and research the company extensively; this will give provide insight into what they're looking for in terms of candidates, which makes answering questions easier because then there will be less guesswork involved on your part!
